Wood scored four Grand National wins as a driver, and five more on NASCAR's infamous ragtop series. Although named as one of NASCAR's 50 greatest drivers in 1998, Wood found even more success as co-owner of the famed Wood Brothers Racing operation. The team helped revolutionize pit stops in the 1960s.
Wood Brothers Racing cars have won a total of 97 races at NASCAR's highest level. Those who captured victories for the Woods include Wood himself, Speedy Thompson, Tiny Lund, Marvin Panch, Dan Gurney, A.J. Foyt, Curtis Turner, Cale Yarborough, Donnie Allison, David Pearson, Neil Bonnett, Buddy Baker, Kyle Petty, Dale Jarrett, Morgan Shepherd and Elliott Sadler.
