THE DON HUNTER COLLECTION
LONE WIN
Jim Hurtubise (56) dives under Fred Lorenzen during the Atlanta 500 held on March 27, 1966 at the track then known as Atlanta International Raceway. Hurtubise, who name is misspelled on the door of his Norm Nelson-owned Plymouth, went on to score the only win of his career in the event.
The Atlanta 500 was one of only six Grand National races that Hurtubise ran that season, and in 13 different seasons between 1957 and 1977, the New Yorker competed in a total of just 36 events. Hurtubise also ran 13 Indianapolis 500s, with a best finish of 13th in 1962. He won four USAC events between 1959 and 1962.
Hurtubise is a member of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame.
